Letting You Go

I wrote the music and lyrics to this song after spending a relaxing day in September on the beach in Seaforth, Nova Scotia. For the entire afternoon, I had this beautiful beach to myself as I practiced my guitar and sang my heart out in the warm sun.

I wrote this song after experiencing a disturbing dream. This dream had left me crying in the middle of the night in my Victoria home just days before I left for the tour. It was about an ex boyfriend who had never treated me well. He had left quite a bit of relationship baggage in my life and I wondered how he still managed to have control over me in my dreams. It seemed wrong. By writing this song, I was able to begin letting him go once and for all...

"Letting You Go"

Music and Lyrics by Rozalind MacPhail

It's been a few years since I've heard your voice,
Longer since I've seen you
Yet you were in a dream of mine last night
And you had me weeping like a baby

I'm wondering how it is that you still have the power to hurt me so
I thought I said goodbye to you a long time ago,
A long time ago

In my dream,
You had me crumbling just like old times
And you still had me thinking that your life was far more important than mine
You were in love with another girl
And I stood hurting inside as you ingnored me
And time stood still,
And time stood still

And now I'm letting you go
I'm gonna let you go now
I'm gonna be on my own
I'm gonna let you go now

I'm gonna let you go
I'm gonna let you go now
I'm gonna be on my own
I'm gonna let you go now

Back in Montreal

Hey Friends,

Now that I've shared some pics, I thought I would get you up-to-date on all I've been up to.

So I just travelled for 16 hours from Charlottetown, PEI to Montreal, Quebec. I'm spending a few days here for POP Montreal and then head straight to New York City! I'm so excited! It's been a few years since I've been to New York so I'm really looking forward to spending Canadian Thanksgiving there. I'll be giving a bunch of touring workshops in the music schools and hanging out with my best friend, classical flutist Conor Nelson. I'm sure there'll be some pretty outrageous stories about my times there. Conor and I always experience crazy fun times when we hang out together. I'm already charging up the batteries to take lots of pics with the camera and I have a new journal in hand...

My touring out in Eastern Canada was a blast. Fave spots was playing in St. John's NFLD, Seaforth NS, Berwick NS, St. Andrews, NB and Charlottetown, PEI. I am thinking of touring out east again next summer and spending more time enjoying the nature out there and the fun company of my new friends. It was sad to say goodbye to the east yesterday and very sad to say goodbye to all the beautiful folks I recently met out there. There's something about being so close to the ocean - it's food for the soul and inspires me so much. I wrote a whole bunch of new songs while I was out there and they all have this different sort of feel.

Having met so many beautiful people along the way always makes it very difficult to say goodbye. Guess that's the good part of touring - knowing that I will see everyone next time I'm passing through.

Well, that's it for in regards to touring rambles. I'll write again when I get a chance...

Love Rozalind

Eastern Canada Pics - Part 1a

Meet my Dad, Ron, a man who I have only met a handful of times in my life. I hung out with Ron for a few days in Sussex, New Brunswick . So what do you think? Do we look alike?

The Mersey House in Liverpool, Nova Scotia. This was a really cool spot and the first spot I performed during the eastern stint of my tour.

Thought I should take a pic of The Upstairs show board in Sydney, Cape Breton. I performed with Antigonish's Air Traffic Control guys on flute all night after I arrived in Sydney a day early. We had such fun times jamming it out that night...I then got to do my own show the night after, hours before I caught the ferry to Newfoundland.

So how did I get to St. John's? Well, a kind trucker offered to drive me after I asked around on the overnight ferry as we were docking that morning. What a long trip - 11 hours of straight driving from the ferry to St. John's. It was a great experience though. I got to see what being a trucker is all about. It's a hard life, that's for sure and requires way too much coffee for my liking.

My fave spot in Newfoundland...Hiking, on the way to Signal Hill.

And there's more...St. John's, Newfoundland. I think every Canadian should get to experience Newfoundland for themselves at least once in their lifetime. The beauty of this Canadian gem brought tears to my eyes during my long drive to St. John's. There's a real sense of history in this place. You've got to experience it for itself to truly understand.

A puzzling tourist moment on my way to Signal Hill in St. John's, Newfoundland . I walked through this really cool spot where there were colourful homes everywhere and all with interesting things to look at. What a magical hike it was that day. I got to see the most beautiful spots in the sunshine as I picked and ate wild blueberries the entire way!

More interesting signs in the same hood and only in St. Johns!

Enjoying the most eastern tip of North America - Cape Spear. That night, there was a huge storm from the remnants of the hurricane which brought the rain down like I've never seen before. The trees were holding on tight to their roots. We went out drinking.

Me and my good friend Evelyn. Evelyn is living in St. John's where she is doing her Doctorate in Music. I spent four glorious days with Evelyn and her boyfriend Peter in their beautiful home.

Playing at The Ship's open stage in St. John's. Love that spot.

The Tall Grass Festival in Seaforth, Nova Scotia! This place was heaven on earth...

The magical musical lineup for the festival.

What a lovely mermaid!

Halifax singer-songwriter and good friend Ian Sherwood. Ian did an amazing set as the beautiful sun was setting. It was a special moment amongst special people. I don't think you'll ever meet a nicer fellow than Ian. Ask anyone who knows him. They will agree.

Halifax's talented and inspiring Jenn Grant. I really enjoyed Jenn's performance. We'll be seeing and hearing much more from Jenn in the near future...
