My New Victoria Friend

As many of you probably already know, I'm a serious sucker for wildlife. I get such a thrill out of watching animals, to the point that when I was a young kid, I used to go on the TTC by myself to the Toronto Zoo and watched the animals for hours. Times haven't changed and I still get excited to be in the company of various wildlife.
This is my new Victoria friend, a seal that I watched for hours as I was practicing by the ocean in Buxton Green Park, only a two minute walk from Juliana and Douglas's home. Seems like I met another performer : )
Oh how cute!
Quit staring at me!
This is the real reason why these critters keep coming to this spot. The fishermen who dock their boats here sometimes give fish scraps to them. You should watch the seals follow the boats that are coming in to dock. It's pretty entertaining to watch.

Hello From Beautiful Victoria

Howdy Everyone!

I'm writing to you from Vancouver Island's beautiful Victoria. I am going to be based here for the rest of the summer months as I just love it here so much.

My good friends Juliana and Douglas recently invited me to stay in their lovely home and I would have been very silly not to have taken them up on their generous offer! Picture this: the ocean only a two minute walk away with a gorgeous view of the mountains, lush and beautiful gardens everywhere with many roses of all sorts releasing their intoxicating perfume, seals playing in the water as I practice my acoustic guitar by the ocean, stargazing into the clear night sky with the refreshing and cool ocean air blowing on my face... I finally feel like I have a place I can call home and it feels good.

The one thing I have really learned about being on the road is how hard it is to always be on the go and to not have a place I can call my own. Juliana and Douglas invited me to stay in their home after they found out that I was having a bit of a difficult time. I was getting really tired of constantly couch surfing, tired of not having my own personal space and exhausted by always being on the move. After talking with Juliana over the phone, we both agreed that it was time for a rest. I knew I made the right choice the moment I hopped on that ferry. It was meant to be.

Last night, I went out for the first time in ages. I played at the Logan's Pub open stage. Met Clay George, this amazing singer-songwriter who had me in awe with his soothing and sexy voice. We played lots of tunes together throughout the night and a fave moment was when I got to jam with him to my favourite Bob Dylan tune, "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright." I had a blast performing on my own as well and got a very positive response. People were even dancing to my tunes!

So life feels good again. Time for some new songs... : )

Coming Home, Well, Sort Of...

Coming Home, Well, Sort Of...

I still haven't posted a new blog and my Greyhound 30 day pass just ended! Yikes. Thought I better write something...

Happy Full Moon Day Everyone! (What is this girl on?) Not sure if any of you folks celebrate that sort of stuff but I must admit, every full moon, I go for a walk and think about the people I care about and think good thoughts for them. It may be a bit strange but it's my ritual. : )
Just about to take a hot tub outside at my Aunt's, with the full moon shining bright...Just returned today, after a very fun time in Nelson BC.

More stories soon...

Some new lyrics that I wrote recently:

WISHIN' THAT I COULD HAVE STAYED

Words and music written by Rozalind MacPhail

So I left you in June, on that rainy day
with my Greyhound bus pass in my hand and a very sad face
I just met you, yet I can't stay
I've got some livin' to do and I gotta be on my way...

And now I'm wishin' that I could have stayed
kinda wishin' that I would have stayed
thinking that I should have stayed
kinda hoping that I'll see you again, someday

You see, we met in the Rockies
we spent two magical nights together and a beautiful day
and we both knew that we were right for one another
as we held each other tight,
listening to those rocking indie tunes, way into the night
oh, those moments when it feels so right,
those moments when you're wishing for nothing more in life

And now I'm wishin' that I could have stayed
kinda wishin' that I would have stayed
thinking that I should have stayed
kinda hoping that I'll see you again, someday

That time kept flying by and before we knew it, we were saying our goodbyes
feeling empty inside and wondering why...
why you?
why here?
why now?

And I'm still wishin' that I could have stayed
kinda wishin' that I would have stayed
thinking that I should have stayed
kinda hoping that I'll see you again, someday, soon.

Outrageous Greyhound Tour - Pics

Ah, Johnny and Roz's Greyhound Tour. What a great time...
I have many pics to share but here are a few...
This is me smiling with my good friend Maureen in Campbell River. Johnny and I stayed at her place and played at her awesome seafood joint on the ocean, called Patis Finns. We played as the sun set and ate freshly caught prawns and salmon! Talk about being spoiled.

Me saying goodbye to Campbell River. What a gorgeous beach. I picked up beautiful pieces of driftwood while I was there. I just didn't want to leave...
The Three Sisters in Canmore, the view from our room in The Drake.
Hey, if it was my name, I'd be excited! : )
My Canmore friends who came to see me at The Drake in Canmore.
My musician friend (cool beard) who sold me an omnichord in Lethbridge. I had so much fun trying it out with a looping pedal. I've already written a new song with it.
Johnny playing at the Tongue 'N Groove in Lethbridge, Alberta. What a great night. Johnny sounded awesome.
Me playing with Brunner at the Karma Local Arts House in Calgary. Some good friends of ours came out to this show so it was a really special time. Did I ever have a blast jamming with Brunner!
My new gig bag which makes my life sooo much easier on the road. I picked it up in Calgary, as I was staying at my friend Marco's.

My new omnichord! What a fun instrument.
